Stargate
The Stargate is the crowning achievement of GTNH and the final multiblock in the game. It is a transportation device developed by a long-vanished alien civilization known as the Ancients. Their vast network of stargates was later taken over by the Goa'uld, a race of nasty sentient parasites. The Goa'uld brought stargate technology to Earth, enslaved the ancient Egyptians, and then largely lost interest in us. The only traces remaining of them on Earth are their influence on Egyptian culture and a few pieces of mysterious technology. How the Stargate works is not known in detail, but it appears to create a space-time wormhole linking it to another stargate in a distant location. Once the wormhole is established, a person can step into one stargate and be instantly transported to the other. A network of Stargates is similar in some ways to a telephone network. Each stargate has an address, and you establish a connection by dialing the address of the stargate you want to connect to.
Construction
The Stargate consists of just a few blocks, but to actually activate and use it requires a few OpenComputers (OC) components which are also listed below. Note that a second Stargate does NOT require any of the OC components. Immediately upon building, the Stargate will form into a ring-like structure with strange symbols written all the way around. Unlike most other multiblocks in GTNH, a Multiblock Structure Hologram Projector does NOT do anything; the player must build it by hand.
To actually build the Stargate, place the Stargate base down first which is the bottom center of a 5x5 square. Then alternate placing ring blocks and chevron blocks all the way around. There should be nothing in the 3x3 square in the middle of the ring. In the Stargate GUI, there is an option for "base camouflage" which makes the bottom five blocks of the Stargate take the form of whatever is placed in those slots. This just lets it blend in better with the terrain.

- 1 Stargate Base
- 8 Stargate Ring Blocks
- 7 Stargate Chevron Blocks
Open Computers Components
- 1 OpenComputers Stargate Interface
- 1 RF Stargate Power Unit
- 1 Tier 3 Computer Case
- 1+ Tier 3 Screen
- 1 Tier 3 Memory
- 1 Tier 3 Hard Disk Drive
- 1 Power Converter
- 1 Keyboard
- 1 Creative APU
- 1 Internet Card
- 1 EEPROM (Lua BIOS)
- 1 OpenOS Floppy Disk
Putting it All Together
The player can begin connecting everything once the above components have all been acquired (and perhaps a neutronium energy cell + capacitor bank for power). Use the image above for reference.
First, place the OC Stargate Interface directly underneath the Stargate Base and the RF Stargate Power Unit adjacent to it. The power unit MUST touch one of the Stargate ring blocks or Stargate chevron blocks in order to function properly. As the name suggests, the power unit only takes RF power which can be supplied through a capacitor bank.
Next, place the screen(s) and the computer case somewhere nearby and connect everything with OC cable. Also place the keyboard adjacent to the screen(s)--in the image it is sitting on top and out of view. Power everything with the power converter and a neutronium energy cell.
Lastly, place the remaining components inside the computer case and turn it on. Nothing will happen right away because there is nothing installed on the computer yet.
Installing Stargate Control
1. Install OpenOS by following the commands on screen install
--> Y
--> Y
.
2. Install the required scripts by copying this line of code into the computer (middle-click to paste).
wget https://raw.githubusercontent.com/OneDayStudios/DiallingComputer/master/StargateControl.lua
3. Type StargateControl
to launch the Stargate Control Program.
4. In the top left, enter the address of a DIFFERENT Stargate and press dial to initiate the connection. Do not include the hyphens and only type in lowercase.
5. Enjoy! You can now teleport anywhere within the same dimension (as if you could not do so already)! Note that this connection is only one-way and building the same setup on the receiving Stargate will not make it two-way.
Upgrades
There are two completely optional upgrades to the Stargate. Both are applied by right-clicking the Stargate base with the upgrade component below. To remove an upgrade, simply break the Stargate base and it will drop on the ground.
- Stargate Chevron Upgrade adds another two chevrons to the Stargate, enabling 9-character addresses to be dialed. This is necessary for interdimensional travel (ie. Stargates in two different dimensions).
- Iris Upgrade allows a working Stargate to temporarily close upon receiving a redstone signal (or through the Stargate Control program). This is primarily for security of the player and their base.
Cost Breakdown
To obtain the mere 16 blocks that comprise a Stargate, the player needs an absurd amount of resources and very impressive infrastructure. The following helps breakdown the cost of one Stargate INCLUDING an OC Stargate Interface, a RF Stargate power unit, and an additional Stargate-Radiation-Containment-Plate which is needed for researching the Stargate Chevron.
The high-level breakdown is all the materials that are at most 1 or 2 steps away from crafting a full Stargate. The low-level breakdown is everything in terms of raw materials. Everything listed is MUTUALLY EXCLUSIVE (ie. the chevrons needed to craft the chevron upgrade are not added to the total count). These lists also assume that the player uses the Component Assembly Line for component parts and the Space Elevator assembler modules for batteries.
