Convocation of the Damned

From GT New Horizons

Introduction

The Convocation of the Damned is a Blood Magic ritual that opens a portal to the Demonic Realm. This is required to obtain Life and Soul Shards from Demon Grunts, which are used to craft Crystal Cluster blocks for a T6 Blood Altar. The shards are also used to craft Blood-Soaked Ichorium Blocks with just 2 Ichorium Ingots, and the Draconic Evolution Fusion Crafter.

Preparation

To start the Convocation of the Damned, a minimum of 15M LP is required in your soul network which means you must have at least an Archmage’s Blood Orb (10M LP capacity) and thirteen Rune of the Orb blocks on the blood altar. Each Rune of the Orb increases the capacity of a soul network by 4% of the original maximum which is an additional 400k LP per rune with the Archmage’s Blood Orb. Note this is (surprisingly) buffed from the default 2% per rune.

Second, you will need 8 filled Crystal Belljars each containing a unique alchemic reagent: magicales, potentia, incendium, terrae, tenebrae, sanctus, aether, and aquasalus. Filling the belljars will require an Alchemic Calcinator, an Alchemic Router, and 16 of each reagent. Optionally, an Alchemic Cleanser may help in case something goes wrong.

Place the calcinator down and insert any blood orb into the machine by right-clicking it with the blood orb in hand. Next, insert an alchemic reagent (ie. magicales) and watch as it slowly turns 1 dust into 1,000 AR at the cost of 2,000 LP. The calcinator has an internal buffer of 2,000 AR and a main tank of 4,000 AR. To transfer to a belljar, shift right-click the calcinator with an Alchemic Router to tune the router to the reagent in the machine. Once tuned, set both the origin and destination of the transfer by right-clicking the calcinator and then a nearby belljar. If done correctly, the liquid reagent or AR will begin flowing into the belljar. If done incorrectly, try using an Alchemic Cleanser to clear the destination list of the Alchemic Calcinator or try shift right-clicking the air with the Alchemic Router to clear saved containers.

Third, the sacrifice of a lesser demon or elemental is required. Return to your arcane plinth and pedestals and trap the summoned entity in a Soul Vial. A recommendation is the fallen angel which requires 3 sanctus, 1 aether, 1 terrae, and 1 tenebrae to summon, but any will work. Do not forget a Dagger of Sacrifice.

Lastly, the Convocation of the Damned requires 1 Master Ritual Stone, 128 Ritual Stones, an Awakened Activation Crystal, and a blood altar. Take everything to a dimension that you don’t mind filling with demons. The Moon or some obscure planet is probably the best option as the Overworld has been blacklisted and the ritual does not seem to work in the Last Millenium or Personal Dimension.

Conducting the Ritual

  1. Place all of the Ritual Stones by right-clicking the Master Ritual Stone with a Ritual Diviner set to Convocation of the Damned. The more expensive Ritual Diviner that can place dusk runes (check tooltip) is required.
  2. Place the filled belljars on top of the 8 pillars surrounding the center. The order of the belljars does not matter.
  3. Link the crystal belljars to the Master Ritual Stone using an Alchemic Router. Shift right-click a belljar to tune the Alchemic Router then set the origin and destination by right-clicking the belljar first and then the Master Ritual Stone. After a link is created, shift right-click the air with the Alchemic Router to clear saved containers.
  4. Place the blood altar on top of the Master Ritual Stone. By now, the ritual should look just like the figure above when holding the Alchemic Router to see all of the links.
  5. Start the ritual using an Awakened Activation Crystal which will immediately drain 15M LP from your soul network. If the ritual is not starting, try holding right-click on the Master Ritual Stone instead of just pressing right-click.
  6. Lightning will continuously strike until all of the belljars are completely drained. If the lightning ever stops before all of the belljars are drained, try relinking the crystal belljars to the Master Ritual Stone.
  7. Once all of the belljars are drained, the lightning will have stopped and now it is time to release the demon or elemental that was trapped earlier and kill it using the Dagger of Sacrifice.
  8. The blood altar will immediately change to a Demon Portal block and a pyramid-like structure is generated around it. Most of the Ritual Stones and all of the belljars will be lost when this happens, but some can be recovered, as seen below.

Collecting Life and Soul Shards

Once the Demon Portal is generated, it will start to slowly build a demon city. Chests with basic loot will spawn in some of the structures, but more importantly Demon Grunts will start to spawn and killing them will drop both Life Shards and Soul Shards at a 30% chance each. The demon city will eventually grow to about 1000x1000 blocks, hence the recommendation to build this ritual in a less important dimension.

The demons can be captured in a Soul Vial and farmed with an Extreme Extermination Chamber for easy automation. There does not need to be a dagger of sacrifice inside the EEC for the shards to drop.

The beginnings of a demon city. Random structures will generate and demon grunts will spawn. Maximum size is about 1000x1000 blocks.
