Tainted Land is a special biome modifier added by [[Thaumcraft]] as part of world generation. Like Eerie and Magical Forest, Tainted Lands overrides the local biome. It actively transforms and spreads tainted blocks, decaying any living or organic matter. Stopped only by water or empty voids. Most natrual Tainted Land biomes will have a Tainted Node somewhere nearby. Contact with tainted blocks or even picking up tainted items can inflict the 'Taint Poison' effect that causes damage over time and can infect mobs it kills, spawning more powerful tainted versions. |
|||
Tainted Land is extremely hard to eradicate once established. Crusted Taint is slow to break, and the liquified version Flux Goo needs to be washed away with a water bucket. It can be kept at bay by a line of Silverwood trees with Pure nodes, which will stop the spread, and the natural biome reverted with Ethereal Blooms. However any remaining Fibrous Taint or tainted blocks will reinfect the area if not completely removed. |

Greatwood trees are a fairly common sight, but rarely they may spawn with cobwebs hanging from the lower branches. This is a warning that a nest of Cave Spiders has made this tree their home. Approaching a webbed Greatwood will activate the Cave Spider spawner below its trunk. For the brave or well-equipped, there is also a chest of treasure to loot. These chests contain mostly mid-tier metal ingots and gems. |

Hazards are notable features of world generation that add dangerous features to the landscape. Hazardous landmarks often include monster spawners or are traps by their nature. While potentially dangerous to the unwary, most Hazards are paired with Loot, resources, or are even needed for progression.

Webbed Greatwood
Greatwood trees are a fairly common sight, but rarely they may spawn with cobwebs hanging from the lower branches. This is a warning that a nest of Cave Spiders has made this tree their home. Approaching a webbed Greatwood will activate the Cave Spider spawner below its trunk. For the brave or well-equipped, there is also a chest of treasure to loot. These chests contain mostly mid-tier metal ingots and gems.
