Gardens are non-solid, single blocks placed during world generation in appropriate Biomes. There are thirteen types of garden added by Pam's Harvestcraft. Gardens are the single largest source of early game food. Eight of each garden are required to complete the Healing Axe quest.

Acquiring

Besides world generation, gardens can also be obtainted from the associated lootbag, which can be bought for five Farmer coins in the Quest Book. Nether Gardens are only available from the Nether or lootbag. Water Gardens can spawn in very large bodies of water, but are rare and can also be crafted from a Topical, Leafy, Herb and Ground garden. No gardens spawn in biomes with only snow or rock ground cover. Access to the sky is not a requirement for garden spawns, and they can be found underground in appropriate biomes.

  • Mushroom, Leafy, Herb and Stalk gardens spawn in FOREST tagged biomes
  • Desert gardens only spawn in SANDY tagged biomes on sand
  • Berry, Gourd, Ground and Grass gardens can spawn in FOREST and PLAINS tagged biomes
  • Tropical gardens spawn in JUNGLE tagged biomes
  • Nether gardens spawn in any NETHER tagged biome, on netherrack
  • Textile gardens spawn in FOREST or JUNGLE tagged biomes
  • Water gardens spawn in SWAMP or RIVER tagged biomes, on large bodies of water
    • Lush Swamp and rwg_riverCold are good options

Usage

Left-clicking or otherwise breaking a garden will spawn three food items associated with that type. Water or breaking the supporting block will destroy gardens. Almost all of these items can be crafted into seeds to grow the associated plant. Right-clicking picks up the garden instead, so it can be moved elsewhere. Both Gardens and their plant drops can be automatically gathered with a Forester's Backpack.

Spread

A steep hillside of stone and grass blocks, sparse acacia and oak trees. Two groups of white flower plants on either side and a large group of green stalk plants cascade down the slope.
Steep slopes cause cascading garden spread.

If placed on suitable blocks with clear area nearby, gardens will spread like vanilla mushrooms, albeit at a very slow rate. Most can exist on dirt, grass, farmland (inc. modded variants), or podzol blocks. Desert Gardens can be placed on sand, or modded farmland such as Garden Soil or Fertilized Dirt (non-tilled). Water Gardens can only be placed on water or Garden Soil. Nether Gardens can be grown on Netherrack in addition to normal soil types. Gardens cannot be placed in IC2 Crop(sticks) nor accelerated with bone meal. They can be tick accelerated, such as with the Lamp of Growth, but do not work with the OpenBlocks Sprinker.

Gardens will only spread to empty nearby blocks in a seven block diameter (radius 3, +/- 1Y level), and only if there are five or less gardens of their type in that space, up to one block above and below where they are. This can cause cascading chains of gardens on steep slopes.
